August - UFO Sew Day

Donnis had a new Tilted Log Cabin project all done and ready to show us Wednesday at our UFO Sew Day.  We have seen the three block table runner and now this 9 block version.  Donnis encouraged us to do at least one block next month and perhaps make it into a pot holder - what a great gift idea.  Thanks Donnis.  I am looking forward to seeing the colors everyone picks for their log cabin blocks.

Most of the day was hands on work for Donnis, Susie, Esther and Machelle.  Sara was able to join us for the day and used her time to machine sew blocks.  Looking forward to seeing the finished project.  Was really cute.

Show and tell after lunch was amazing - such a variety of items.
Donnis had borrowed a pattern from Machelle and made these four aprons that the neck line grows or shrinks as needed.  These are for grandchildren and now that the big "kids" have seen them - they put their orders in.

Donnis finished the 4th of July table runner she was binding and showed us another table runner that she will be working on next.  The 4th of July took planning.  Donnis had to refigure sizes and such so she could fussy cut stars.  Very attractive.

Esther had already sent her latest projects on to their owners - so she e-mailed us pictures that we could place here for all to see.  On her Noah's ark - she did quilting around the characters and such.  So cute.

The bear one just makes you want to cuddle up with it and go to sleep.

Machelle had done a couple chenille items/pillows and already given them away, the sail one she got a picture of and brought that to show.  Susie said the heart one given to Iowana was really adorable - maybe Iowana can bring it in when she is feeling better.  Next time Machelle - WE HAVE TO SEE IT - how can you rub across the fuzzies and enjoy the chenille with a picture?  (ha haa)

Machelle's pillow for her granddaughter was gorgeous back and front.
Some one we will not mention had suggested to Machelle that since she has so many UFO's, maybe she should bring them in for show and tell - well guess what Machelle did?  This one had quite a bit of conversation with it.  When - who - etc.  And there is not that much to finish, lots of ideas of how it should be done.
Remember when this project below was done?  We know it was before Vevia's time and Susie had the templates cut for it - but when was that?  These UFO's are not bad Machelle - almost finished Tops are GOOD.
Susie really got inspired at one of the shops down south and made this darling bag.  You have painted lace, silk ribbon embroidery, pin cushion, crazy quilting, etc.  And then.........
she pulls out this fantastic item from inside.  Ooh!!! Ooh!!! Ooh!!!!!!!  Everyone wants one.  The thread cutter, needle case, thread holder, winder, etc. that was in the antique brass finish just made all the work Susie put into this - even more fantastic.  Bits and pieces of lace, silk ribbon embroidery, etc. filled both sides of her sewing kit.
And if that was not enough, Susie also brought back in her darling embroidered hussif sewing kit.  Since Susie doesn't necessarily have all the time in the world to make each one of us one of these most delightful kits (hint, hint) - perhaps we should pick a month to have her show us how.
Was a great day inside - too humid out.  Looking forward to next month - get your blocks ready.
Till then.............................
