September 5th - Come Rain or Come Shine

What a pleasure to go to Morganville and not worry about driving through a 4 way stop corner that is flooded.  Course you do know - that we would NEVER do that!  We would take a side street. haha
The sun, clouds and a few showers were happening outside while we were very busy within.
Jenell brought in her quilt that she is working on so that she could place it up on the design wall and really see how it was coming along.  It will be even longer than our wall is tall.  She has all the half square triangles done, now to put them together.

So many different projects in the works and so much to talk about.

Susie was helping Juanita with a paper piecing block of the month project.  Nuff said!
Juanita is tackling the blocks and making it through.  Yeah!! Juanita!!!

Deb O. had a couple projects in the works.  This wool one for the harvest holidays.
And Janet worked on her twilling.

Deb T. brought her cousin from Hutchinson with her to help on binding.  Hello and Welcome Carmen.

Carol and Machelle worked on cutting out their paper piecing foundations for the calf some of our crew will be starting next month.  Remember Saturday the 22nd.  Check with Lisa or Susie if you have any questions.

Caught this little gem working out great for Jenell.  Past President Carol B. of the Clay Center Piotique Quilters Guild made everyone in the guild a finger pincushion at the end of her presidency.

This is the second project that Deb O. worked on.  It is a CrabApple Hill pattern - BOM, "Deck the Halls".

Thank you Machelle for the tape and thank you Susie for lending a hand putting the pattern together..

so Deb could trace the pattern on to her fabric.

After lunch - Show 'n Tell.
Our favorite part of the meeting - not as exciting maybe this month - everyone has been so busy that they have not finished as much as some months.  And us with a guest to show off to.  Rats!

Did get a few pictures from Deb T. to share.  She painted this barn quilt...

the men carefully hung it......

and you can see it from the Clifton Road.  Please check with Deb for particulars.
Isn't it grand up there?!  Great job Deb.

Machelle has been away visiting family and though she did not have any of her own work to show - WOW!!!!! the stuff she brought back to share.  Love this little apron she got....

here it is all laid out.  Okay, who's making one of these?  So simple looking....šŸ¤£hahahaha.
It probably is though.

And then this charming little pants outfit.  At first I wondered if Machelle had put plastic bags in it to keep it from getting squashed - nope - it is a bag holder.  Oooooohhhhhh!  Just love it.

And here is another one.

If you want something a little more - sew a towel on an outfit and hang it on the oven door or.........
Thank you so much Machelle for bringing in these darling treasurers.

Deb "Shown and Told" about her cousin - Carmen.

and the quilt that they have been putting binding on.  This is from the top that Deb got at the Barnes  antique festival and had Susie quilt it.  What a treasurer to find and absolutely fantastic to look at. Such a shame that the maker never finished and enjoyed.

After Show 'n Tell, the group discussed the upcoming project for January 2019.
Spring Cleaning Strip Exchange
Quilt Magazine June/July 2013
It is a Spring Cleaning strip quilt as shown in the picture above.  Susie has copies of the pattern from the Quilt Mag. June/July 2013.  Let her know if you are interested in joining in with the strip exchange.
So far there is Jeannette, Lorraine, Lisa, Carol, Janet, Susie, Machelle, Deb, Juanita and Leila.  If  I have missed anyone, please let Susie know.
Now is the time to start getting your strips collected.  Widths of various sizes, lengths at least 12" long (to fit the diagonal of a 8" finished block).  Doing the pattern shown takes 144 blocks: 72 blocks of lights and darks, 36 of light blocks, and 36 of medium blocks.  As of right now, suggestion is to keep your Darks, Lights and Mediums separated.  When January comes, whether the strips are all piled on a table or in a bag - everyone's scraps will be mixed up by D / L / or M and you'll draw out and sew up.  Sounds like a fun project for 2019.

After lunch, we got back to work.  Before you knew it - Deb O. had her top and bottom completely traced.

Carol and Machelle had their PP foundations cut out and in order.  Good thing to do ahead of time as you might be missing a part or two.

Somewhere in all of the day, Machelle was able to get a label on her mother's pillow so she could take it in to her.  Click on picture to see it better.

And Jenell got more rows together and more HST's sewn in.

Little rain on the way home for some.
Sunshine is coming again - so keep smiling.
