Okay, there were still quite a few that could not make it for our sewing day; however, a lot more than Susie and Pat for last month. Thank you ladies for doing your part! Heard tell that it was perfect and you even got to have lunch with the men folk.
Now this month..........
Granny Machelle brought two visitors - Alyvia and Shanna. Don't you just love their dresses. Machelle made them and the girls' dolls have their own made clothes also. Alyvia said that she made her dollies outfit. Check out the girls purses too..........
and the backs. How cute! Machelle - you can not fib to us anymore - you do a great job with whatever you do.
The girls are so in love with their dresses, that they picked out more outfits they wanted grandma to make.
Susie is working on 2016 programs for the Piotique Quilters Guild (PQG) in Clay Center and we got to see one of the types of demonstrations they are going to have. Looking forward to seeing the demo and this project finished. Wow.
Deb might be fussy, but this quilt is going to be done right!
Don't you just love this picture of Deb?! Her kids need to have copies of this - she looks so beautiful and that gorgeous quilt in lap, both are visions of loveliness.
Esther volunteered to put the binding on the community service quilt for PQG, and this was a perfect day to continue the sewing.
Vevia brought in some kits of Stick Weaving for Shanna and Alyvia to try their hands at.
Donnis brought in her Bargello (it was in Oct. 2013 that we first saw it) to get those interested started on making their own version. Remember
is the book we are using. Machelle bought one and Vevia got hers for 3 cents on Amazon. Okay, it cost $3.99 to ship - but still way less expensive.
Donnis told us that we needed to have 8 fabrics (at least a half yard of each) that went from light to dark, with high contrasts. She showed us how to put them on a cheat type sheet to make it easier later. Course now after looking at her own again - she is going to make some changes.
Then we are to cut 1 1/2" strips at least 28" long and sew them together in our 1 - 8, light to dark. Sew two of these and then sew them together #1 side to the #8 side of the first group.
Vevia do not go any farther! hahahahahaha, but that is what Donnis said. When we come next month, bring your sewing machines, cutting mats, rulers, rotary cutters and such so that Donnis can take us to the next step. I'll try very hard Donnis. And thank you and Susie for giving us pointers. Susie has also made a couple of bargello's. Easy if you follow directions.
Esther is really getting along those edges on the binding.
Shanna and Alyvia are almost done with their stick weaving.
They decided to attach their first project to their purses. Boy do they have ideas of other things to do with these. Pointers they want to pass on - do not get them so tight that you can not slide off the sticks. Round sticks would probably be better also. Clover does make them and you can get them at Joanns. These were Chop Sticks.
The girls made Vevia/me, this lovely thank you note. Thank you Ladies. It was fun and I learned a lot.
Machelle has some brave girls. They found these lovely moths outside and got a chance to very gently hold them.
Okay, what is this moth? We did find this sight where you can put in some characteristics and see about identifying - the less, the better. If anyone knows or finds out, please let the rest of us know. Thank you.
Susie showed us all this new starch pen she got. Check out the pen at this site.
Susie found out how to make her own spray starch from one of her blogs she visits. Click on this and you too will have the recipe and where it came from. Susie got an answer from the woman in regards to our questions about the homemade starch. The woman has never had any difficulty with discoloration nor with insects. And stated that after you wash it, the starch is gone. She also uses this starch on her quilt backing before she bastes. Thank you Susie for getting the answers and for sharing this technique.
Vevia is working on some red work for a quilt.

Leila heard that Vevia was working on an 8 pointed star and brought in these two samples so that they could talk about the "Y" seams and such.

Not sure what time it was - but - wham! The lights went out. So lunch was taken in the front of the building where we had the windows to see with and then show and tell followed.
Glad that Esther let us see the whole quilt she is binding. Gorgeous color selection.
Donnis doesn't throw away anything. Here is a quilt she made with left over this and that's. Very interesting and some of them you could almost guess what she had been working on.
Vevia said that Donnis is always telling everyone to bring something in for show and tell even if you already have before. Vevia thought she had brought in this one - but no one remembered it - 2012. Little bit of everything on it. The embroidery work was a copy of a doily that she has that is getting worn out. What a way to remember a pattern.
Leila brought in her larger Hunter's Star quilt. Wow! Leila has such great color choices.
See how dark it was in the back of the build - behind the girls. Vevia took home some tie linings that Deb pulled out of the ties she is making a quilt with and put them into flowers on this wreath for Deb. Course Deb can not have it till next month. Have to show it around you know.
Time to pack up as still no lights. It might look okay - but hand work is not easily done when the lights are off.
Had fun - especially in the dark.
