This month we worked on Hum Bug or Teepee bags. Susie has several bags already and opted to work on her wool applique. What lovely backing she had for this project. She got it at Sew Country in Belleville and it is a felt, much nicer felt than some of us have ever seen. Looking forward to seeing the end result of her flowers and baskets.
Jan has one hum bug bag, but thought it was time to refresh her memory on how to do one.Deb tried to get out of picture taking as she said that we had seen this quilt last month. She is working on quilting the candlewicking quilt.
Esther has really gotten far on her whole cloth. She settled for just a touch of that tricky metallic thread. Got some pointers on using it - put in freezer for a bit (Jan's husband does that with his fishing line - keeps it from breaking) or try a damp cloth to lay the thread on before you use it. Looking forward to hearing if any of those ideas help.
Machelle has two granddaughters that she thought she would make the teepee bags for. Had some lovely pink material.
For those that were able to come to the meeting, they also had an opportunity to make an Ort Thread Catcher. (Ort - n. 1400-1450 late Middle English. Usually a scrap or morsel of food left at a meal) Deb made one and then put it away so quickly that we missed getting a picture of hers. Esther shows off her creation and then here is Donnis', ready for buttons. Donnis was working on putting binding around one of her table centerpieces, made an ort and kept tabs on the tips for the bags. She can sure get around.
After lunch, at show and tell - Donnis showed us these lovely hot pads - we never guessed where the fabrice came from - she could not see tossing out good curtains - so she re-purposed the fabric into these lovely creations.
Machelle has been wanting to do a quilt for her own home - for the grandkids to use when they come over. Isn't this the perfect quilt? She wanted an embroidery machine that did Disney embroideries and though she may not have gotten the exact machine she was looking for, she did get one that had these lovely Winnie patterns. Love the colors. She wants to make one more quilt for her home - forgot to ask if it was going to be along the same lines.
Click on any pictures to have them enlarged for better viewing - especially this close up of Eeyore. The backing was as beautiful as the front. Don't remember exactly the wording on one of her TWO labels - it has to do with when a child is born = a grandparent is made. I should have written it down. Sorry.
Machelle thought she would hold her teepee bag way out to the side and we would only get a shot of it - sorry, our camera has a wider range. Great bag. One down, one to go.
Missed everyone that could not be there. Prayerfully we will see you next month.
