When our crew get their minds set on something - wow can they carry it through.
Wanting to use Dorthy Perry's fabric and have a Community Service quilt in the closet ready for a need - put the zing in many of us that had nothing pressing to do.

Glad that Bev had a chance to join us. She is working on a hand quilting project.
And here is what some of the ladies were busy with. This is a 6 rail scrap block, going to be set on point. Seen a pattern not on point that called it a basket weave rail. Not sure what this is called, thanks to Deb for finding the picture for us to follow after. Great way to put to good use those 1930 - 1950's dress fabrics. (there were even some feed sacks in the group)
Others were working on a double wedding ring paper pieced project that they have a class coming up soon with. Getting ready for them was great for us - we got to see all the steps without the hard work. It's a Judy Niemeyer pattern, not sure if this one, but click here and to get an idea of what Judy N. does. Think the one that they are all working on is either like the "Flowers for my Wedding Ring" or something close.

As you can see the quilt is growing.
Carol helped Esther and Machelle cut the rails. Esther also did some sewing.
In case you did not realize it - our group finds what is needed and jumps in. Thanks to Leila and the others for the pressing also.
After lunch was "Show 'n Tell" - Machelle started us off with these two gorgeous center pieces. Remember, click on the picture and it gets larger.
The fabric she used for the backings will make them double purpose. AND Machelle did the two fabric binding technique so that each side has coordinating binding.
Deb got a great deal on this beautiful table cloth. Remember when you could get these in pillows, towels, and such for every state? She's thinking about the borders and then off to Susie for a full quilting on it.
Lorraine tried out the 2 1/2" jelly roll technique making "strip" fabric then cutting the dresdan blade one way and the next to produce this lovely plate. The original idea was for a quilt, but Lorraine likes it so much this way that she is using it for a table topper as is.
Susie brought back Lorraine's patriotic quilt all quilted and since it will be gone shortly after the binding is put on, we got to see it right away. Lorraine says she has another one almost ready to go - without the cornerstones.

Carol is working on her twilling. This block may seem like its taking for ever, but it is gorgeous.
As we all know, this quilt has been very close to Esther's heart. It is the only one she has done for her and Bruce and she has really been pushing to get it finished. She started it in 2005 with Marcella B.'s help with the needle turn applique. The blocks are from a BOM that the ladies attended in Manhattan. She was not able to go to all the classes, so some of the blocks she had to learn all on her own how to make. When she went to get the finishing fabrics, they were out of what the others had used, but we all assured her that she got the loveliest of finishing fabrics. It just SINGS hallelujah all on it's own.
Esther did a great job on the applique as well as the blocks.
The center is more than lovely as Esther's colors are so perfect for it.
Esther got a little choked up about how happy she was to get it finished - thanks to Susie putting in extra time, turning it four times on the frame and getting it back quickly for Esther to bind. Esther, you can be very proud of this lovely quilt.

After lunch and show and tell - back to the "drawing" board.

Before we packed up, the quilt was really growing along.
Deb took the cut pieces home - maybe she will get a chance to sew a couple more blocks together.
Vevia took some strips of white muslin (Thank you Janet for donating) and strips of colored fabric to make the setting triangles. She brought in her Fons & Porter Easy Diagonal Sets Ruler so that everyone could see what it was going to look like and have input as to how wide the white strips should be.
To finish off for the day, here is that delicious snack mix that Janet made.
